Cheryl McGibbon, MD

I'm a board-certified, Cornell and Columbia-trained psychiatrist with expertise in treating mood, anxiety and attention disorders. I work extensively with individuals who are struggling with self-esteem, relationship issues, career/family balance, grief, trauma and life transitions. I also have specialty reproductive psychiatry training from the Columbia Women's clinic and have expertise in pregnancy, postpartum depression, infertility, miscarriage, infant loss and parenting issues. I am dedicated to helping individuals gain a better understanding of the nature of their difficulties in order to learn, grow and find meaning in their challenges.

My approach is empathic, direct and collaborative. Initial evaluations include a thorough assessment of biological, psychological and social factors contributing to current symptoms and difficulties. I appreciate the intricate relationship between our emotional and psychological states and our physical health. I have training in psychopharmacology and various forms of psychotherapy including supportive, cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal and psychodynamic. I also integrate complimentary and alternative approaches to overall health and well-being.

My treatment recommendations are tailored to each individual's specific needs and situation, and are highly respectful of one's personal preferences and values. I am also available for consultations and second opinions for individuals seeking specific expertise in issues related to medication during pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility treatments.
